The NJIT Campus Center Eco Giving Tree will help many homeless individuals to keep warm this winter. Members of the NJIT community are encouraged to donate hats, gloves and scarves that will be donated to homeless shelters in Newark. The tree died of natural causes and will be eventually composted. “Even a dead tree can have a purpose,” said Campus Center Director Donna Minnich Spuhler. “We did not have to cut down a living tree or buy an artificial tree.” Located in front of the Campus Center Bookstore, the tree features LCD lights that use 80% less energy and will outlast regular holiday lights, ornaments that have and will be re-used for many years, and recycled paper tags.
